HOMEWORK
Homework in primary school is viewed as a valuable activity. It is given to support and reinforce work taught in school and to train children to work independently and to manage their time. Teachers will not give homework to pupils as a matter of course. Homework, it will be given when it is necessary to supplement class lessons. Parents should become involved with the education of their children by checking that homework is being done on a regular systematic basis. The time spent on homework ranges from 15 minutes in the lower primary classes to 45 minutes in Years 5 and 6.
As with the secondary school, homework is set every day and it is considered to be an integral part of the learning process, encouraging independent study. Students are expected to devote time to their homework and there are penalties for late submission and unsatisfactory work.
The amount of time taken will vary according to the year the student is in, but as a general rule it ranges from one and a half hours in Year 7 to three to four hours in each subject in Years 10 and 11.
